As part of the Business and Administration Department in the Faculty of Business and Economics Dr. Berge holds the Business Chair of Co-operative Enterprises. The Business Chair of Co-operative Enterprises seeks to increase the awareness of the cooperative business model by introducing new courses focused on cooperative business practice to the business students at the University of Winnipeg. Business students will soon be able to obtain a specialization in cooperative business practices as part of the Bachelors of Business Administration Degree.

Dr. Berge completed his Doctorate at the University of Guelph studying cooperatives as an alternative distribution system for local food and community development. Dr. Berge also holds a Masters of Business Administration from McMaster University majoring in finance. Prior to focusing on cooperative business practices Dr. Berge studied Biology at the University of Prince Edward Island and Medical Laboratory Technology at Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario.

For nearly ten years Dr. Berge worked for the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) as a Research Analyst coordinating the product development, food for health, agriculture and rural policy research themes for the province. Prior to his government work, Dr. Berge worked for McMaster University as a Senior Research Advisor for major project within the Office of Research Services at McMaster.

As the Business Chair of Co-operative Enterprises, Dr. Berge takes a collaborative approach to the position including students from all areas within the University of Winnipeg. The Business Chair is taking on a team approach to increasing the awareness of the co-operative business model.
